YT: Offroad Wonders in Tanzania

After a week of teaching we left YWAM Kilimanjaro and drove off-road to see their outreach efforts in Maasailand villages.
In my lifetime, the Maasai were a once an unreached people group.
Now the Maasai have numerous thriving church plants. With a new Maasai DTS and multiple schools built,
We are partnering with villages and churches to deepen discipleship.
And young girls that once faced becoming child brides have a more hopeful future through godly education.
Tanzania has astounding wonders of culture & nature…like their great mountains, Meru and Kilimanjaro (the largest in Africa)
They also have Baobab trees with curious medicinal fruits I’d never been able to taste. Then my friend, Michael spotted one fallen beside the trail out of Maasailand. I never told them how much I wanted to try one. But Uncle Leo gave it to me. So I had the joy of trying and sharing it.
I had spent all week telling students story after story of how God reveals His heart through surprises like this.
God’s love is courageous… like my grandad and dad trusting us kids to drive a jeep around the farm from 6 years old. God’s never afraid of the risk of love.
But stories could just be stories if it’s someone else somewhere else. “Is God a Father to me?” That’s a question we all face.
My students there needed to know that. Some face family challenges – like one who lost his dad as an infant.
So, I invited the students on their own off-road drive.
But the weather was uncooperative… clouds had pretty well hidden the mountains for weeks, and all that day. But we prayed and went anyway.
As we drove and enjoyed worship… the clouds parted and golden light illuminated Tanzania’s fascinating wildlife…
We wend off-road once more, spotting herds of zebra and wildebeest before the sun set on the cloudless heights of Kilimanjaro.
The largest mountain of Africa had taken a new meaning for us. It wasn’t just nature, it was the Creator’s gift to His kids—a wonder of love from our Father in Heaven.
